Top 5 Reasons Why Your Google Ads Aren't Showing

Imagine publishing a Google Ads campaign and then realizing that you’re not getting any impressions or clicks. There’s a good chance that your ad isn’t showing and that’s why there’s no engagement. While this sounds bad, it’s not actually a huge deal. There are several reasons why this could be happening, and easy ways to troubleshoot them.

Here are the top five reasons why your Google Ads aren’t showing and how to make your ads visible.

    1. Campaign is Paused

It’s possible that your ads, or the ad groups or campaigns that house them, have been paused. Go to Change History in your Google Ads account to view all the changes that have been made to your account. Then, filter by Status to see which campaigns are active. If your campaign is not active, reactivate it at this time.

    2. Little to No Search Volume

If you see a ‘low search volume’ status, you’re likely targeting too narrow of an audience. While it’s good to be specific, you still need to target the keywords your users are actively typing into the search bar. And, if Google finds that you are targeting an extremely low-volume keyword with little traffic, it will make it inactive. Try broader terms that will reach a wider audience.

    3. Ad Was Not Approved

Sometimes, ads are not approved by Google. It takes about a day for them to be approved, and Google will let you know of the status in your Google Ads account. Check in your account to see the status – it could be pending approval, which means you need to wait longer. Or, the ad could have been disapproved. Some reasons for why this happens are:

    • Spelling or grammar errors
    • Capitalization issues
    • Punctuation and symbols
    • Alternate CTAs
    • Copyright infringement
    • Unsuitable content
    • Repetition
    • Gimmicky copy

    4. Bids Aren’t High Enough

There’s a chance that you aren’t bidding enough to be competitive. If your bids are lower than your competitors’ bids, their ads will show before yours. However, keep in mind that even if your ads aren’t appearing on the first page, they could be showing on other pages. To increase ad placement, you’ll need to place higher bids.

    5. Ad Schedule is Restricted

Creating an ad schedule is the best way to tell Google what days and hours you want your ads to show. If you don’t create an ad schedule, your ads will show on all days of the week, at all hours of the day. However, it’s possible to be too restricted with your ad schedule, or your schedule may be poorly planned. You still need to give enough time for your ads to show and people to engage.

While there are other reasons why your ad might not be showing, these are some of the most common.
